Course Description

In this course, you will learn the fundamental concepts and skills you need when working with networks. Through this course you will gain a basic understanding of security layers, operating system security, network security and security software. You will learn the basics of how to secure operating systems and how to safely manage user accounts.

Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand and utilise key concepts in network defence
  • Safely secure operating systems
  • Implement best practices in network device security
  • Understand the fundamentals of secure computing

This course is available to all adults over the age of 18 resident in the Republic of Ireland.

Does the course have prerequisites? 

This course requires a degree of familiarity with the Windows operating system and you should have some basic knowledge of Windows Server, Windows-based networking, Active Directory, anti-malware products, firewalls, network topologies and devices. If you need to learn these fundamentals first, our IT Specialist in Networking course may be a good starting point for you.

Yes, this course is supported by an online tutor who you will have access to during the course.

What is the exam like for this course?

The IT Specialist in Network Security (ITS-102) exam is conducted online and lasts approximately 50 minutes. The exam has between 35 - 45 questions and has a pass mark of 70%. The exam is a closed book exam, so course materials may not be used during the exam.

Do I need specific hardware or software?

You will require access to a PC or laptop running a supported version of Microsoft Windows (the most recent version is Windows 11).
