Course Description

In this course, you will learn about the conceptual differences between internet, intranet and extranet networks, as well as local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs) and wireless networking. If you would like to establish a strong foundation in the area of networking, then this is the right course for you.

Upon completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand the role of switches, routers, and different media types in networking
  • Understand the OSI Model framework and IP addressing
  • Describe network infrastructures, protocols, and services
  • Troubleshoot network issues

This course has no specific prerequisites, however having a basic knowledge of networking concepts would be beneficial prior to beginning the course.

What is the exam like for this course?

The IT Specialist in Networking (ITS-101) exam is conducted online and lasts approximately 50 minutes. The exam has between 35 - 45 questions and has a pass mark of 70%. The exam is a closed book exam, so course materials may not be used during the exam.

Do I need specific hardware or software?

You will require access to a PC or laptop running a supported version of Microsoft Windows (the most recent version is Windows 11) or MacOS (the most recent version is Sonoma). Linux operating systems may also be used for this course, though some versions of both MacOS and Linux may not support all course content.
