Did you know that SOLAS has a Skills and Labour Market Research Unit (SLMRU) who run a research programme on Ireland's skills supply and demand? The SOLAS SLMRU conducted a survey in November 2023 to gather information from Irish recruitment agencies about their difficult to fill vacancies requiring skills which are in short supply. One of the sectors where there are lots of difficult to fill vacancies is Science, Engineering & Technology. 

Science, Engineering & Technology

The Skills and Labour Market Research Unit found that 41% of employers surveyed in this sector found it difficult to fill vacancies within their organisations. Of particular note, the following skills were found to be difficult to source:

  • Software development

  • Networking engineering and dev-ops

  • Technical support

  • Data and quality analysis

  • Data science
