Course Description

This  course is designed to provide learners with basic knowledge and practical skills in cybersecurity, specifically within Cisco networking environments. The course covers essential security principles, basic network security concepts, endpoint security, vulnerability assessment and risk management, and incident handling.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Grasp fundamental principles of cybersecurity, including confidentiality, integrity, and availability (CIA triad), as well as concepts like defence-in-depth and least privilege.
  • Understand network security fundamentals, such as access control, authentication, authorization, encryption, and network segmentation.
  • Secure endpoints (e.g., computers, mobile devices) through techniques like antivirus software, host-based firewalls, endpoint detection and response (EDR), and secure configuration management.
  • Use vulnerability scanning tools, risk assessment methodologies, and risk treatment strategies.
  • Effectively respond to cybersecurity incidents, including incident detection, analysis, containment, eradication, and recovery. 
  • Understand concepts such as; incident response frameworks, incident classification, and incident documentation.
  • Apply your knowledge of security principles, network security concepts, endpoint security, vulnerability assessment, risk management, and incident handling in real-world scenarios.
  • Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for diagnosing and resolving cybersecurity issues effectively. You will know how to analyse complex security problems and develop appropriate solutions.

This course is available to all adults over the age of 18 resident in the Republic of Ireland.

What is the exam like on this course?

This exam for this course is fully online and is proctored. The exam duration is 50 minutes with 35-50 questions. 

Do I need specific hardware or software?

You will require access to a PC or laptop running a supported version of Microsoft Windows (the most recent version is Windows 11) or MacOS (the most recent version is Sonoma).

The tutor may advise the downloading and installing of additional free or open-source applications throughout the course.
