During the ‘Decade of Centenaries’ from 2012-2022, Ireland has been marking the 100-year anniversaries of many pivotal events in Irish history, and this has reignited a greater enthusiasm for the Irish language and culture. Irish language TV channel TG4, viral videos of famous pop songs as Gaelige and the growing number of children enrolling in Gaelscoileanna has brought the Irish language into the 21st century.
This online course will teach you all the words and phrases you’ll need for general conversation, so you can keep up with this renewed wave of interest in Irish language and heritage.
Upon enrolling, you’ll soon be able to strike up a chat, comfortably meet and greet people, and have the confidence to practice at the many informal coffee and discussion groups around the country. For many, it offers their first chance of being able to help their young child with Irish homework.
With its ancient, lyrical traditions and its ability to adapt to modern life, learning Irish is an empowering way for Irish people to stay connected to home, or if you are a non-Irish resident, a chance to engage with your adopted country’s native language.
